The SIUT "SavaBots" team has triumphed at the European Universities Robotics Championship (EURC) 2025, securing first place in the "Autonomous Rescue" category.
Competing against 40 teams from top universities across the continent, the SIUT team designed a rover capable of navigating simulated disaster zones autonomously. Their robot, named "Tesla-X," completed the course in record time while successfully identifying all "victims" using thermal imaging.
"The terrain was incredibly difficult this year," explained team captain Igor Stankovic. "But our custom suspension system and real-time mapping algorithm gave us the edge we needed."
The team spent six months refining the design in the university's Mechatronics Lab. Their victory highlights the strength of SIUT's practical engineering curriculum.
The SavaBots will now advance to the World Finals in Tokyo later this year. The university has pledged full financial support for their travel and equipment upgrades.
