SIUT has officially inaugurated its new Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering, a facility dedicated to developing next-generation medical devices and prosthetics.
The lab is part of a €2 million expansion of the Faculty of Bio-Technology. It features 3D bioprinters, motion capture systems for gait analysis, and a clean room for micro-sensor fabrication.
"We are closing the gap between biological science and mechanical application," said Prof. Dr. Sarah Miller. "Our students are currently working on affordable, 3D-printed prosthetic hands that can be controlled via neural signals."
The lab will also serve as a collaborative space for the University Clinical Center of Vojvodina, allowing doctors to work directly with engineers to prototype surgical tools and patient monitoring systems.
This facility ensures that SIUT remains at the cutting edge of the rapidly growing HealthTech sector in Southeastern Europe.
