A team of four Computer Science students from SIUT has taken top honors at the "SecureSerbia 2025" Hackathon, outperforming 20 other teams from across the country.
The 48-hour marathon competition challenged participants to identify vulnerabilities in a simulated banking infrastructure and propose robust defense mechanisms. The SIUT team, "White Hat Wizards," not only patched the flaws but also developed a real-time intrusion detection system.
"Their solution was elegant and highly effective," remarked the lead judge from the National Cyber Security Center. "They used machine learning to predict attack vectors before they even happened."
Team member Jelena Kovic attributed their success to the university's practical curriculum. "The simulations we run in our Network Security class are actually harder than what we faced here," she joked.
The team was awarded a cash prize of €5,000 and internship offers from three major cybersecurity firms.
